Today, JerseyCAN Executive Director Paula White stood alongside Governor Phil Murphy and Sen. Teresa Ruiz as the Governor signed a pair of bills aimed at improving the literacy skills of students in the Garden State.

The bill, covered in this week’s New Reality Roundup, mandates literacy screeners for every K-3 student and provides professional development for educators so they can hone the skills they need to deliver structured literacy effectively.

Paula’s efforts demonstrate the best of advocacy, and the best of 50CAN, where we define success by making a divided world better through policy change for kids. We thank and celebrate her team, her partners and the elected leaders who made this change possible.
