Britney Mumford
Executive Director

A born and bred Delawarean, Britney attended Caesar Rodney High in Camden before earning her Bachelor’s in Political Science at East Carolina University. After college, Britney kicked off her career with various political campaigns from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. She learned quickly that her passion was building relationships and giving people the tools to change their communities and that grassroots organizing was the key to changing the world for the better.

More recently, Britney has used her organizing skills at issue-based nonprofits including fundraising for public broadcasting and educational campaigns on the federal judicial nominations process. Working in various communities across the country, she has seen firsthand how a solid education can change the trajectory of someone’s life.

More about Britney Mumford
I aspire to be like Dr. Jill Biden. Here's why:

Dr. Jill has dedicated her life to education and more importantly, for the right for everyone to have equal access to a high-quality education. Throughout her time as Second Lady of the United States, and even now as First Lady, she has continued teaching at local community colleges. No matter what national or international issue required her attention, she continued her work because she valued the education of her students and understood the positive impact she could have on their lives. There’s also a rumor that she left the 2008 campaign trail in the final days so she could watch the Phillies win a World Series at home and that’s just awesome.

Why I love my job:

I get to meet new people every day and teach them how to advocate for themselves. While we work to create new programs and move legislation forward, we are giving individuals the tools to continue the work long after any specific campaign. I feel that the work I do is the true embodiment of “be the change you want to see in the world.”

My connection to public schools:

I am the product of one and I loved it. I was lucky to have phenomenal teachers and a robust community surrounding our district. In addition to classes and athletics, we could participate in business and marketing programs, take classes for college credit and join numerous clubs. I want to ensure that every child has the opportunities that I did, regardless of their zip code.

What I’m bad at:

Accepting the word “no.” I’m a firm believer that there’s always a way and together we can find it.

The image that represents why I work at 50CAN:

Through knowledge, teamwork and sheer determination, this country put a man on the moon. There is absolutely no reason that we can’t apply that same drive to give every child access to a high-quality education. With the right opportunities, hopefully one of them will get us on Mars next!
