When I joined RI-CAN in October of 2010, we were a small but energetic group, devoted to the idea that great schools change everything. Since then we have grown into an almost 10,000 member movement and pushed our elected officials and policymakers to make education reform a top priority in Rhode Island.
I had the privilege to work for Maryellen Butke and her passion and commitment to education inspired me every day. As we move into the next chapter at RI-CAN, I consider it a great honor to continue the vital work of education reform as our new Deputy Director.
As Deputy Director, I will be working hard throughout the summer and fall to prepare for the 2013 legislative session and ensure that we have smart policies that put the kids in our state first. I will also be working with our advisory board and partners on the ground to find RI-CAN’s next executive director.
One of the best parts of this job is having the opportunity to work with some extraordinary advocates for change. One of those advocates is Anna Cano Morales, RI-CAN’s former director of strategic partnerships and current advisory board member. During this transition, Anna will be acting as a senior advisor to RI-CAN and be a part of the search committee to find the next advocate for education reform in the Ocean State. I am so grateful for her efforts and continued support of our mission.
I look forward to continue our work together to ensure that every Rhode Island child has access to a great public school.
