In 2021, in the midst of unprecedented challenges for students and their families, 50CAN charted a course toward the future of American education.
We put forward a vision of a boundaryless education world no longer constrained by the redlines that separate school districts or confined to the walls of a single school building. This is a world where parents and children are centered and empowered to design a personalized learning journey based on their unique needs, passions and values.
In 2021, 50CAN made major progress toward the definition and realization of this vision. We achieved 30 policy victories, from passing historic funding reform to the creation of free tutoring and summer school programs. Our local leaders addressed the internet and technology needs of millions of students and ensured there would be transparency and accountability for how federal stimulus funds are spent. To power this work, we trained over 3,500 new grassroot activists united through a bold new policy agenda: Believe in Better.
Our new vision for American education won’t come together all at once, but we believe when we look back, we will recognize 2021 as a crucial year when many of the key building blocks of the future took shape. We hope you’ll learn more about them by reading the 2021 CANnual Report.
