Last week we celebrated Early College High School Week by sharing stories of New York students enrolled in these life-changing programs.

Students like Izaiah Brown, an aspiring dentist and track star at Amsterdam High School.

So we were thrilled when ECHS Week ended with good news: Governor Cuomo and the state legislature finalized a budget that includes $6 million for early college high schools.

Research shows that this investment is well worth it. Eighty percent of early college high schools have a graduation rate at least as high as their school district and 77 percent of ECHS graduates go on to some form of postsecondary education.

For Izaiah and the other students we featured in our ECHS Week blog series—not to mention the thousands of early college high school students across the state—this $6 million means continued support on their path to success.

New York has a lot to be proud of today, and NYCAN is grateful for everyone who made this victory possible. We’re thankful for the governor and the state legislature for providing funding in this year’s budget. We’re thankful for our partners, who lent their voices to this issue. And we’re thankful to advocates like you, who took action time and time again.

With your help, NYCAN is standing up for policies that help great schools thrive. Because we believe that great schools—like early college high schools—change everything.

Thanks for your support!
