2025 Math and Data Science Fellow
Amber Zavicar
K-12 MTSS Math Specialist, Genesee Intermediate School District

Amber Zavicar is a passionate advocate for creating equitable educational opportunities, particularly in mathematics. Her career is built on the belief that math is accessible to all students, and that a one-size-fits-all approach to math education, ending at calculus, fails to serve the diverse needs of today’s learners.

After a decade as a high school math teacher and cross country coach, Amber saw firsthand how systemic barriers limited students’ academic and career pathways. She took action by securing a state-funded grant to implement data science programs in low-performing high schools across Michigan. This initiative was designed to give underserved students access to a relevant, in-demand field, providing them with new skills and opening doors to careers that were previously out of reach.

A dedicated wife and mother, Amber is now in her second year of a doctoral program, where she continues to focus on developing innovative educational solutions. Her academic and professional journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child has the chance to find success and realize their full potential.
