The 50CAN Fellowship for Math and Data Science

In 2025, in partnership with leading national policy organizations and foundations, 50CAN will launch an inaugural cohort of national practitioners, thought leaders and policy experts eager to improve K-12 math instruction, strengthen math pathways, and raise the visibility and understanding of the fields of data literacy and data science.

With a deep commitment to bipartisan pragmatism and a belief that math, data literacy and data science education must be more accessible to all students, fellows commit to the belief that the best path forward to improve our education system is one that relies on the ideas and participation of both political parties, working together strategically and in a coalition that prioritizes student and family needs above political differences.

Our team will facilitate the time and space for our fellows to:

Contribute to the development of a national policy framework in pursuit of better academic outcomes and pathways for K-12 students

  • Collaboration with key partners and stakeholders to define, pilot, and advance proven strategies for math intervention and support
  • Boldly imagine what it will take to help American families and policymakers understand the definition and roles of Data Literacy and Data Science in the American education landscape

Build a national network of colleagues

  • Attend meetings with some of the education sector’s most prolific policymakers, practitioners, and thought leaders
  • Collaborate with other fellows to discuss the best way to navigate our current political climate, opportunities to advance your work, and seek accountability in personal projects and growth
  • Explore the history of American education policy and deepen understanding of its impact on work in the field today

Learn from world-class communicators how to amplify your voice and advocate for better systems

  • Deepen skills through specialized media training
  • Access to our collaborative partners’ network and suite of tools to build online and offline audiences
  • Receive training to complete meaningful communication outputs that shift public discourse surrounding math instruction and the fields of Data Literacy and Data Science, including on-air media appearances, op-eds, in-person speaking events and quotes in mainstream media articles
