Katrina Notarmaso-Mahoney
Education Policy Resident, ExcelinEd

Katrina is an education policy professional dedicated to expanding opportunity and improving outcomes for all students. Most recently, she served as an Education Policy Resident at ExcelinEd, where she developed resources and tools for families, schools, and state education agencies to help students become skilled readers. Previously, Katrina was a Teach For America Capitol Hill Fellow for the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, managing a portfolio of federal K-12 education policy issues.

Katrina’s work in education is grounded in classroom experience and a commitment to public service. A first-generation college graduate, she worked as a substitute teacher while in college and began her career in foreign policy before choosing to focus on education. She then joined Teach For America as a third-grade English Language Arts teacher in a charter school in Newark, New Jersey, teaching at the height of the pandemic. That experience helped shape her belief that education policy is most effective when it reflects the perspectives of those closest to students — families, educators, and communities.

A proud Jersey girl, Katrina lives in Jersey City with her husband, Chris, and their dog, Odin.
