A native of Columbus, Ohio, Chris is a nationally recognized high school mathematics and computer science teacher with over twenty years of classroom experience. He received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) in 2021 and was named the Buck Martin Secondary Teacher of the Year by the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics in 2017. As a Desmos Teacher Fellow (2019), he actively incorporates technology to make learning student-centered.
Since 2015, Chris has taught in the Upper School at Columbus Academy, where he holds the George S. McElroy ’32 Honorary Master Chair in Mathematics (2022). He previously served as the school’s PreK–12 mathematics department chair. In 2011, he earned National Board Certification in grades 7–12 mathematics teaching.
Chris has served as editorial panel chair for The Mathematics Teacher, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ journal, and is co-founder and facilitator of the Columbus Math Teachers’ Circle, which engages educators in rich mathematics as a form of professional development. He also serves as a national mentor to new circles. In addition, he participates in other professional development opportunities, including the Exeter Math Institute, and presents regularly at national conferences.
Chris holds five degrees (B.S. in Mathematics, B.S. in Civil Engineering, M.Ed. in Mathematics Education, M.S. in Mathematics, and M.S. in Data Science) and recently created a data science course at his school.
Outside the classroom, Chris enjoys collecting vinyl records, playing bass and guitar in several bands, and volunteering in animal rescue work.
