Lucy Chen
Vice President of Advocacy and Community Engagement, Cathedral Arts Project

Lucy serves as the Vice President of Advocacy and Community Engagement at the Cathedral Arts Project (CAP) in Jacksonville, Florida. At CAP, she builds collective impact initiatives that expand arts education in Northeast Florida.

Recognizing the importance of evidence-based advocacy, Lucy established a research partnership between CAP and the Data Science for Social Good program at the University of North Florida. The partnership designed statistical studies to understand the impact of arts education on student learning and showed that students with greater exposure to the arts tend to be more engaged in their classrooms. Drawing on this research, Lucy successfully advocated for a citywide cultural field trip initiative, which has benefited thousands of children in Jacksonville. In 2024, Lucy was named a Woman of Influence by the Jacksonville Business Journal, and she serves on the National Arts Education Partnership Advisory Council.

Before her role at CAP, Lucy was the Chair of the Music Department at Edward Waters University where she founded Keys on Parade, a career training program for undergraduate students that also provided high-quality music education to students in Duval County Public Schools. She previously served as Director of the Monmouth Conservatory and Head of Music Programs at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in New Jersey. During her time in New Jersey, Lucy was honored with a Joint Legislative Resolution from the New Jersey Legislature recognizing her leadership and commitment to music education.

Beyond her advocacy work, she is an avid hiker and a concert pianist who has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
