Exciting news: the Pennsylvania House is scheduled to vote today on two crucial bills that will enable more state and local funding to flow to Philadelphia’s schools.
The bills, the product of weeks of negotiations, received unanimous bipartisan support yesterday in the Senate. They will provide approximately $140 million in recurring funding as long as reforms are negotiated to provide “fiscal stability, educational improvement and operational control.”
It’s crucial that all representatives who care deeply about the long-term viability of the School District of Philadelphia vote “yes” on these bills.
PennCAN has been pushing hard for months to find a solution, and we are convinced this compromise language will avert widespread layoffs and pave the way for meaningful reforms.
