Data drives everything we do at JerseyCAN. That’s why today I’m so excited to share with you a tool that brings all of the data about New Jersey schools straight to your fingertips.

Welcome to the 2013 School and District Report Cards, an interactive online tool that seeks to answer one basic question about every public school in New Jersey: are all students learning?

We used scores from the 2011-2012 New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge and High School Proficiency Assessment to create a user-friendly report card that shows how each school and each district is doing in five key areas:

  • Student performance
  • Subgroup performance
  • Achievement gap
  • Performance gains
  • Four-year cohort high school graduation rates

See the full methodology here. We also encourage you to check out the New Jersey Department of Education’s newly released performance reports, which also offer valuable information about each school and district.

By combing through the data, we’ve found some amazing New Jersey schools that are leading the state in serving all students, regardless of where they live or how much money their parents make.

Check out these schools on our Top 10 Lists, which feature traditional public schools and charter schools of all different sizes from all over the Garden State that prove every day that all children can learn.

I hope you’ll check out our new report card tool, share your thoughts with us on Facebook and on Twitter at @JerseyCAN and spread the word to your family and friends.
