PennCAN welcomes Carolyn Dumaresq as Pennsylvania’s acting Secretary of Education. Carolyn is a committed public servant who has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for kids. She was instrumental in designing Pennsylvania’s new teacher evaluation system that will assess teacher performance based on multiple measures of student performance, and she has been a vocal champion for increasing the rigor of classroom instruction by adopting the Common Core State Standards. Prior to working at the Pennsylvania Department of Education, she led the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the state’s largest teachers union.
In an era of bitter partisan gridlock, it’s refreshing to work with someone who is able to build trust with folks on both sides of the important education debates occurring throughout the Commonwealth.
