Daniel Macy

Daniel was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico – the Land of Enchantment. Daniel comes from humble beginnings but was encouraged by his parents to always work hard and dream big. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s degree in public administration (MPA), both from the University of New Mexico. GO LOBOS!

For over a decade, Daniel worked at the State Bar of New Mexico, helping vulnerable New Mexicans gain access to the legal system. Daniel also has experience in disability rights issues and affordable housing. Daniel enjoys working hard to improve the lives of vulnerable populations and firmly believes all things are possible with hard work and commitment. He is a huge outdoor enthusiast and loves to hike, camp and fish. Daniel is also a nature photographer and enjoys capturing the beauty of the State of New Mexico.

I aspire to be like Abraham Lincoln. Here’s why:

I admire the fact that he stood up against an institution that caused so much pain and heartache to millions. Lincoln took this stance despite it being unpopular to do so because he knew it was the right thing to do. This is man who dealt with an incredible amount of agony and failure throughout his life, however, he rose above all that to become arguably the greatest president in American history.

Why I love my job:

I love my job because education is who I am. I would not be where I am today and would not have the opportunity to work for this incredible organization if it were not for my education. I want every child in the US to know that no matter what your address is or what you look like, all dreams are possible through education.

My connection to public schools:

I’m a product of Albuquerque Public Schools. If it were not for those amazing teachers, counselors and my fellow students, I wouldn’t have made it as far as I have. I firmly believe that with great schools, great teachers and hard work – all dreams are possible.

What I’m bad at:

I am often too hard on myself–this causes me to over analyze certain situations. However, this can often turn into a positive by allowing me to be better prepared for the future.

This is my brother, Joshua, and my sister, Kayley. I have always encouraged them to dream big, work hard and never doubt yourself. I do this work because I want every child, no matter their address, to be given every educational opportunity to succeed.
